Burgundy Facts

Burgundy Regions: Chablis, Mâcon, Côte de Beaune, Côte d’Or

Capital city: Dijon

Surface area: 31,500 square kilometers

Population: approximately 1.6 million.

Location: The North of Burgundy (Sens) is 100 km to the South-East of Paris, while the South of Burgundy (Mâcon) is just 75 km away from Lyon (see map).

Grape Varieties: The two main grapes are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, although others worth noting are the White Aligoté (from Bourgogne Aligoté) and Gamay, the classic variety used to make red Mâcon and, when blended with Pinot Noir, the Bourgogne Passe-Tout-Grains.
